Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha Mim 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not think yourselves to be above God: I have come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
