Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
