The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 By the book inscribed. 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And the swollen sea, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
