The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
