The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
