The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then came down close 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
