The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
