The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
