The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
