The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is Paradise. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
