The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
