The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 So Allah only is the Owner of all - the Hereafter and this world. 25
