Al-Najm 3 of 3
(Muhammad), have you ever seen the one who has turned away (from guidance), 33 And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? 34 Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? 35 Has not he been informed of the contents of the Book of Moses 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another 38 And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad). 39 He will certainly see the result of his labor 40 then he shall be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense, 41 And that to your Lord (Allah) is the End (Return of everything). 42 And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep, 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 That He did create in pairs,- male and female, 45 of a sperm-drop, when it was cast forth, 46 and that [therefore] it is within His power to bring about a second life; 47 And that He it is Who enriches and gives to hold; 48 And that He (Allah) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); 49 and that He destroyed Ad, the ancient, 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 So O listener! Which favour of your Lord will you doubt? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 Marvel ye then at this statement, 59 And keep laughing and do not weep, 60 And you are lost in play! 61 So prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship. ۩ 62

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
