The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 'Ad also gave the lie (to Hud). So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
