The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Ad treated (the truth) as a lie, so how (great) was My punishment and My warning! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
