The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
