The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
