And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 Out of all of us has the Reminder been given to him alone? Rather, he is indeed an arrogant liar' 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 Then they called their fellow, and he took the sword and hamstrung her, 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder. 31 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 Thus do We recompense the grateful ones. 35 He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 40
