(The tribe of) Thamud rejected warnings 23 And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness. 24 Was he the one of all of us to have been given the exposition? He is surely an impudent liar." 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 a blessing from Us; even so We recompense him who is thankful. 35 And he [Lout (Lot)] indeed had warned them of Our Grasp, but they did doubt the warnings! 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
