Samood rejected the warning. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water [of the well] is to be divided between them, and that each one should drink in turn." 28 Eventually, they summoned their companion, and he undertook the (outrageous) task and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder. 31 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 He had warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warnings. 36 And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning." 37 And indeed, the everlasting punishment overcame them early in the morning. 38 'Now, taste My punishment and My warnings' 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
