The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
