The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
