The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
