The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
