The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
