The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
