The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for those on the Right, 38
