The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
