The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
