The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And rejects the best, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
