The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
