The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
