The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
