The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virginal, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
