The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
