The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
