The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
