A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
