A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
