A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor good. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
