a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
