The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
