The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
