The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
