The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
