Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
BEHOLD. We sent Noah unto his people. [Saying:] "Warn thy people ere grievous suffering befall them! 1 He said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you 2 "That you should worship Allah (Alone), be dutiful to Him, and obey me, 3 That He may forgive you somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it cometh, cannot be delayed, if ye but knew. 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 but it has had no effect on them except to make them run away. 6 And every time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears and wrapped up their faces with their garments and obstinately clung to their attitude, and waxed very proud. 7 Then I called them openly, 8 Then surely I spoke to them in public and I spoke to them in secret: 9 I said to them: “Ask forgiveness from your Lord; surely He is Most Forgiving. 10 ‘He will send down abundant rain for you from the sky.’ 11 rain from the sky, 12 What is the matter with you that you do not want the Greatness of Allah, 13 And indeed He has created you through various grades: 14 "Have you not seen that God has created the seven heavens one above the other 15 And has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 Allah has caused you to grow out of the earth, 17 And thereafter He will cause you to return thereinto, and He will bring you forth a forthbringing. 18 And God has laid the earth for you as a carpet, 19 for you, so that you may walk along its wide roads". 20
