In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
