In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
