Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
