O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
